FAQ
What is an End of Life Doula?
End of Life Doulas provide non medical support to those preparing for or experiencing the EOL process. EOL Doulas can provide a variety of services to the person or their families based on their individual needs and expertise of the Doula. These services often times include, education, practical or logistical support, emotional support (including grief support), respite, and advocacy. An EOL Doula can be utilized as a brief encounter to obtain guidance or as a support person that walks with you throughout your whole EOL journey.
What is your training and experience?
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at University of Vermont and my Masters Degree in Social Work from Simmons College. I started working in palliative care during my training in school, and fell in love with this field. I subsequently worked in a variety of settings including, community hospice agencies, inpatient hospital palliative care (including a large top rated Boston hospital), and geriatrics. In my 15+ years working in this field, I have been able to gain knowledge and expertise that can be directly applied to my services as an end of life doula. In addition, I am also certified through the National End of Life Doula Alliance with their proficiency badge. My hope in starting this endeavor is to be able to share this knowledge to help those going through their EOL journey.
Do I need an End of Life Doula?
If you have received a terminal or serious illness diagnosis, or are caring for a loved one going through that, and are feeling like you need guidance with next steps, then an EOL Doula may be helpful. In my service, I encourage my clients to utilize me as much or as little as they feel they need me. I try to base our care plan based on your individual needs. This could be a limited number of visits to just get some initial guidance, or it could be for me to walk with you each step of the way. I offer a free 15 minute consultation phone call to help answer your questions and establish if my services are what you are looking for. Please see the contact page for more information on how to reach me.
Is your service covered by insurance?
Unfortunately, End of Life Doula services are not covered by any insurance plans. I am happy to provide you with information on the cost of my services that range from $75-$125 dollars an hour.
